just wondering what this does? if i have a scheduled backup but i dont want it to run anymore and dont want to delete it in case i decide to use it again would this be the thing to check?

This is used when creating a new job primarily I think.  Such as if you aren't using a policy to run two related jobs and want to give your primary time to run before the secondary job goes into effect.  In your case its usually easier to just put the job on hold if you need to refer to it later.
