Symantec Backup Exec 2010 R3 - The backup-to-disk device is offline.

Hello,

we're doing backup to network share. Network share is accessbile.

Symantecis throwing following error: The backup-to-disk device is offline.

This is typically caused by the folder becoming inaccessible due to it being deleted, renamed, or unshared. It may also be caused by a disk full condition. The folder state has been set to offline. Please attend to this condition. Additional detail may be found in the Event Viewer - Application Log.)

We found a hotfix for 2012 version: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH201596#

Is there something like that in 2010?

Thanks!

In the Devices tab, right-click on the B2D folder and select inventory to get it online

...does that B2D still exist on the physical disk it is hosted on?

Thanks!

It helps but we have to do it every day.

Can we find out why it goes offline?

The device will be considered offline when BE is unable to contact it.  Most commonly, this is due to heavy network load and/or slow remote server/device.  Since we do not have access to your environment, you are the best person to answer this question.

You can schedule an inventory job to run before your backup starts.
