System Locks during backup with Error e0008821

We have a customer with Symantec Backup Exec 12.5 SP3 that is experiencing a fairly common problem (usually every 2nd or 3rd day) whereby the server (Windows SBS 2003 SP2 and fully patched) freezes and is totally unresponsive after the backup has been running for approx 1.5 Hours - resulting in a "Error: e0008821 - Job was recovered as a result of Backup Exec RPC service starting.  No user action is required."  The user then usually powers the server off and restarts it again.  Nothing is written to Windows Eventlogs other than the unexpected shutdown.  Upon researching I came across http://carlweiss.com/blogs/weblog/archive/2007/04/04/Symantec-Backup-exec-fails-with-errors-e0008821... - The meantioned hotfix in this article did not apply as the server already has Windows SP2 applied.

Any ideas or fixes?

Hello,

I believe that the backup target is TAPE Drive. Install the Latest Symantec Drivers for the TAPE Drives.

Also check DCOM settings:
1. Go to Administrative Tools
2. Expand Component Services
3. Double click on the Computers folder on the right pane
4. Double click on the My computer icon in the right pane
5. Double click DCOM Config
6. Search for the application referred to by the CLSID
7. Right click the application and select Properties
8. Click on the Security tab
9. Under "Launch and Activation Permissions"  change from customize to default.
10. Click OK
