The job failed with the following error: The Backup Exec job engine system

Hi.

We have recently upgraded from 9.1 to 10.0 rev 5484.

When notified re. the completion of a job etc. by Backup Exec Alert emails, we are being told that :

"The job failed with the following error: The Backup Exec job engine system service is not responding.

The job log was not available to be included as part of this notification."

This error flags up around 30mins or so after the job starts, the full running time of the job being around 2-3 hours.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Unfortunately I was not involved with the original upgrade and I therefore suspect that all patches that should have been installed, were not.

Perhaps someone can point me in the right direction as to any downloads available which may rectify the problem?

It should be noted that the backup job IS running and completing regardless of the error.

Thanks.
Darren.

I should mention again that the backup job IS completing but the Job Engine service needs re-started once the job is finished...

Sorry, back on again.

I have since updated our version of backup exec to v10 rev. 5520.
This has NOT resolved the problem.

It seems to be intermittent however.
The backup jobs are daily but the services are stopping not every night, it's every few nights or every evening - there is no pattern.

I was also mistaken, the job engine service stops just as the job is about to start. It needs restarted before the job will start.

Can someone please help?

You could try upgrading to the latest version and build 10.1.5629 (aka 10d), see the link below:

Does a media alert pop up at the start of the backup? See the 2 links below that describes an issue that a lot of people are experiencing

Many thanks Simon.

Funnily enough I couldn't seem to find a link for this build at all until you sent it.
I have went with this, scheduled some test jobs and all seems fine for now.

The problem was intermittent before however so only time will tell.

I did find in my drwatson log that the bengine.exe was crashing exactly at the scheduled job time. And had also found out, as per the other links you sent, that the media alerts were causing this.

Hopefully all resolved now.

Thanks again.

Darren.
