Throughput Rate very slow now

Hello,

My backup throughput Rate changes so much (it drop). Some days the backup job do a Throughput Rate of 450 Mb/min on the remote servers. But now, most of the days it is doing only with 130 Mb/min, so it is very slow and not able to complete the job during the whole night. I DID NOT changed any configuration on it.

The data is on remote servers and the servers are connected over a 1 Gb Mbps FULL duplex. The swich is also configured to 1 Gb Mbps Full (and not auto).

We are using BE 9.0 4454, on Windows Servers 2003. The unit is a HP MSL5026 SDLT1 (110/220).

I also verified that when we reboot all the servers, the first time after the reboot, the backup is very fast, but after that, it is dropping the rate.

The backup is performed over the night, so nobody is using the network.

what can i do to speedup the rate or what might be causing this slow throughput rate ?

thanks,
alessandro

Hello,

Please upgrade to ver 9.1 which is a free upgrade.

VERITAS Backup Exec 9.1 (tm) for Windows Servers revision 4691 (Single .ZIP
download)]
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/264342.htm

http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/262414.htm
BEWS 9.1 is a free downloadable upgrade inclusive of previously installed
agents and options from Backup Exec 9.0 for Windows Servers agents and
options.
Update all agents/options on all remote systems

Also refer to the following technotes.
(title) How to correct slow backup performance, slow virus or pre-job scans, and agent initialization problems on fragmented Windows NT, Windows 2000, and Windows 2003 server partitions

Thanks.

Hello,

Are you experiencing the problem of slow throughput with only the remote backups or are the local backups too slow? Since when does the problem occur? It seems you have now upgraded to backup exec 9.1, have you also upgraded the remote agents? If not, you will need to reinstall them after the upgrade.

Refer to the folowing technotes that might help resolve the problem:

Title:How to correct slow backup performance, slow virus or pre-job scans, and agent initialization problems on fragmented Windows NT, Windows 2000, and Windows 2003 server partitions

If the issue persists, try a backup with NT backup and test the throughput and revert with details to the above questions.

Now that you are using version 9.1, we shall move your thread to the 9.1 pool.

All the backup are slow, on the remote servers and also on the local server. For your info, on the remote servers they are faster than locally . (remote: 108 Mb/min , locally: 98 Mb/min).

All the remote agents were updated too.
