Communications failure backing up Sharepoint 2001 database

I am trying to perform a backup of my SPS 2001 database but it is failing after 1 min with the following error

0xe000fe30 - A communications failure has occurred

Brick level backups of Sharepoint workspaces complete sucessfully but the database backup fails every time.

Sharepoint is 2001 SP2a (10.164.6011) and is running on a Windows 2000 SP4 server. Backup Exec version is 10.0 rev 5484 with most updates applied.

Also note the following:
- integrated authentication in IIS is on the SPS server
- there is no IFS volume on the SPS server
- the server only has SPS installed
- IIS, Sharepoint, MS Search and Exchange Store services are all running (under the Local System account) at the time of the backup.

Can anyone assist as I am running into a brick wall with Tech Support?

regards

Henare.

Please note that Microsoft backup utility, MSDMBACK, backs up the Sharepoint database without problem. However, we do not have the storage space to perform this backup to disk before archiving to tape.

Hi,

- Enable restrict anonymous support key on both the servers:
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/238618.htm

- Try creating separate backup job for remote server.

- Ensure that no networking related issues like teaming on network adapters is causing this problem of loss of communication between Backup Exec job engine and remote agent.

- If you are performing backup of the remote system then perform following.
From the Tools, Options, Network Tab, select "Use any available network adapter"".

- You can also upgrade to build 5520 and reinstall remote agent:
