Tape was created with Backup Exec 7.01.
I am now on v10.
I keep getting this error:
CatalogStorage device "BNCHMARK 1" reported an error on a request to read data from media.
Error reported:
Incorrect function.
V-79-57344-34030 - An invalid command was sent to the storage device.

Is it the same tape device or a new one?

Was the tape created with Hardware Compression?

Same type of device but different.
HC always on.
Old Backup Exec running on NT.
New Backup Exec running on Windows Server 2003.

Since you were using Hardware Compression, I would imagine that the firmware levels on the two drives were different. I ran into this problem years ago with "identical" Compaq DLT4000s. Luckily I was just trying to balance out drive usage, and was able to restore from the original device

Since then I NEVER user HW cocmpression. With the system resource on computers these days, you will not see any throughput difference between the two and Vertias will always be alble to read Veritas compression. (Course if you are thinking of switching to ArcServer, stay away from Software Compression :D

Thanks. Old tape drive died out of life cycle now.
Was able to install old BE 7.01 and retrieve data using new tape drive.
Thanks.
