Unable to catalog or restore from tape

I am unable to restore a backup from a DLT tape loaded in a stand alone tape device.

The errors listed in the history are

"Restore- \\DOMSERVER\E$
An inconsistency was encountered on the storage media in BNCHMARK 1.
V-79-57344-33994 - The data being read from the media is inconsistent.
V-79-57344-65072 - Connection to the restore target has been lost.  Operation canceled."

All solutions from the thread 273455 have been tried

Fast backup set to 0 in the registry and the catalogue folders renamed, while the backup services switched off. Backup Services have then been restarted.

Inventory of the tape succeeds. Catalog fails for 'Use storage media-based catalog' set to off and set to on. Error messges listed below.

"Catalog
Append operations cannot be performed on this storage media.
V-79-57344-34001 - End of data was encountered before a set map could be located.

Catalog- E: Data
An inconsistency was encountered on the storage media in [DeviceName].
V-79-57344-33994 - The data being read from the media is inconsistent."

Backups are completing ok.

Restore operations complete fine for recent backups.

The tape that is giving the errors was working fine previously.

The tape has 30GB of data on it, the backup that is being restored completed successfully, there were no hardware errors at the time.
