Unix machines not showing up under remote selections

I am migrating my unix/linux servers from our BE 9.1 server to the new BE 10 server. I updated the config files on the servers and they do not show up under the Remote Selections when trying to browse for them. Did the way this works get changed in the new version?

BEWS v10.0 requires a valid license key to protect Linux/unix system. Ensure that you have a registered a valid license key of RALUS ( Remote Agent for linux and unix) with Backup Exec system.

Hi,

We are a veritas partner and I was told that the NFR version I am testing out should not require this. I have also read that v.10 will work with a v9.1 client which I have working fine with my BE 9.1 server.

please advise.

Ensure that Linux OS you have is explicitly tested with BEWS v10.0 :

If it is explicitly tested, then install latest RALUS agent :

http://support.veritas.com/docs/269804

The Backup Exec Unix Agent on a UNIX/Linux system listens on TCP port 8192 on the UNIX/Linux . Port 8192 must be opened on the UNIX/Linux system to allow communication between it and the media server. The port chosen on the Unix/Linux system is dynamic, but communication starts on incoming TCP port 8192.

Im having the same problem. When I run ./agent.be -nd I get

9429: binding port 8192
9429: bind returned -1
9429: errno=99
9429: NRLAddResource failed. (64499)
./agent.be: Communication System Failure:
Unable to advertise resource. Check TCP/IP status.

In the document you suggested people get
9429: bind returned 0 in response...
any idea??

Do you have to pay for the RALUS agent or does it come for free on the install disk? In the past I haven't had to buy a seperate agent to back up my Solaris 2.6 box. Currently I am using the eval version of 10 and I am backing up my Solaris 2.6 box fine with the 9.0 config files. I would try to put the 9.0 or 9.1 config files back on and try to see if they show up in the selection list.Message was edited by:

RALUS is a paid agent. Its faster than the old legacy unix agent and is the way to go.

so the solution here is to go with a "paid agent"??
