Can you upgrade directly from 11d to 13 and if so what issues need to be addressed before such a migration/update.   I am new to the product but need some direction concerning this issue.  Will existing agents work with 13?   Thanks for any help..

Hi Cleaver,

with BE 11d you can do a direct upgrade to BE 2010 R3.

You need the following to be in place:

1. Upgraded license keys from Symantec, so contact their licensing department.

2. A copy of the Data and Catalogs folders BEFORE starting the upgrade. Stop the BE services before doing this.

You can then follow the TN below to do the upgrade:

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH67768

Once done, run LiveUpdate to install BE 2010 R3 SP1 (or download and install manually). Then run LU again as there is an additional DDI package to install.

Once you've run LU, run a push-install to any remote servers you might have, and then the Device Configuration Wizard to install the Symantec drivers for your drive.

EDIT: Here is the correct TN: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH159557

Thanks!

You can upgrade directly to BE 2010 from 11d.

Refer http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH148394

Keep a copy of CATALOGS and DATA folders from the BE installation directory. Incase of any issues during the upgrade, you can get the earlier configuration by using the DATA folder.

After upgrading the media server, you must update the remote agents also. You can push the updates to remote machines from media server.

Yes you can directly upgrade my BE11d to BE2010 R3.

Before any upgrade you should make a copy of DATA and CATALOGS folder.

Above folder are located at X:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\

You should check the Hardware and Software Compatibility list to verify if the tapes device is

compatible with the latest version of BE. and also the OS on which you will be installing Backup Exec

and Remote Agents.

HCL http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH137050

SCL http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH137682

BE11d agents will not work with BE2010R3, after upgrading media server you will have to upgrade

remote agents too.

How to upgrade, refer to  http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH148394
