I currently have a server running 2008 R2 and BE 12.5D with a tape drive. I need to upgrade the OS to 2012 R2 and we've just purchased BE 2012. What is the best way to upgrade both platforms? I was going over a couple of scenarios of either upgrading BE and then doing an in-place upgrade of the OS, or doing a clean install and then importing all the media.
Thanks

Well the first thing that jumps out is that Windows Server 2012 R2 will not be supported with Backup Exec until the release of Backup Exec 2014 which is in BETA testing right now. please see
Till then you can install Backup Exec 2012 then upgrade to 2014. For Backup Exec 2012 a clean install works best.
Backup Exec 2012 is quite different then previous versions.
I recommend reviewing the following information:
Best practices for Backup Exec 2012 installation http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO74426

Ok, thanks Imosla. I looked on the product page for BE 2012 and it doesn't mention anything about what OS it can be installed on, only that "it cannot be installed on Core versions of Server 2008".
For a clean install of BE 2012 do I just import all the tape media after installation?

Before the install make sure and make a copy of the Data and Catalogs folder. see this great blog by pkh: Preparing to Install or Upgrade to BE 2012 https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/preparing-install-or-upgrade-be-2012
hope this helps
