Using BackupExec with Sophos Enterprise Manager

We use BackupExec v9.1 Build 4691 for Windows Server 2003. We also use the latest version of Sophos Enterprise Manager which is installed on the same Server (Dual P800, 2GB RAM).

I called Sophos Tech Support because having their on-access scanning makes a Full backup take 24 hours instead of 14 hours, due to every file backed up being scanned first. They told me that there is an option within Backup Exec to automatically turn off Sophos Services while the backup is running and then start them after the backup has finished, thereby allowing backups to take the shortest time possible and the on-access scanning to protect the servers.

Does anyone know where this option is or what you need to do?

Hello,
There is not a particular Option as you say to stop Aplication before backup job. However what you can do is put a Pre and post job command to start and stop the apllication before the jjob starts. And then you have other Options for configuration such as 'do not start the job if Pre job command is Unsuccessful' if you dont want the Job to start at all if for some reason the Application fails to stop.

I created a batch file call 'stopsav.bat' and in this I just added the 'net stop savservice' command. I also did another batch file to do the same to start the service. I tested both of these first by clicking on them and monitoring the savservice (which according to Sophos is the correct service to stop).

I then added a Pre Job Command and a Post Job command in Backup Exec, and checked the path was correct etc.

After checking the Backup this morning, I got the following message:

Starting Pre Job Command < C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Backup Exec\NT\Pre and Post Command Scripts\Startsav.bat >

Error: Could not start Pre Job Command < C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Backup Exec\NT\Pre and Post Command Scripts\Startsav.bat >. Error (2): The system cannot find the file specified.

Why didn't this work?

Hello,

Please place the file Startsav.bat in:
C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Backup Exec\NT and then verify the result by running a backup.

Please update the result

Thanks,
