I am currently running Backup Exec 2012 in a Virtual inveronment, I need expert opinion on my setup environment. My server (Hardware) is NEC Express5800 series, i installed VMware Esx Version 5 on it then created a vertual machine and then installed win server 2008 R2 and in this server i have my Backup Exec 2012.
It this the best inveronment to use backup exec 2012 or should i install backup Exec directly on the hardware.

Deduplication storage must be on a volume presented as local to the media server (so not a share)
if using iSCSI connectivity for Deduplication storage then it must be a physical disk array (we had a customer that used a cheap software based iSCSI target, running on a remote Windows server, as a Deduplication Storage folder which gave us loads of issues)
Do not use USB (or RDX) disks on a remote system presented as a share, as BE will not correctly detect the removal and insertion when they are physcially attached to a remote system

Backup Exec does not support pass-through access of a tape library (or USB disk) not a VM. As such depending on what your intended backup storage target is, you should use a physical server for the Backup Exec media server and not a virtualized one.
EDIT: Note: iSCSI, Share Level and OST connectivity do not count as passthrough (but may experience performance related issues)

Thanks for pointing that out. One more thing if i am not using any tape or USB disk as backup disk, Only Network storage then will i have any drawbacks ?

I really appriciate your response, For Deduplication storage is in my local server also alocated by VMware to my client server it gives me 332.00 MB/min for 721GB of data and it takes 01:13:09:21 time to complete
If my media server was installed directly on the hardware without VMware will it give me same results or better ?
