VSS Writer File System - B2D Folder must be on local NTFS Volume

I created a backup of a 2003 server which gets some data and the Shadow Copy Components. I keep seeing this error:

What is weird is I have another 2003 server that I am also getting the Shadow Copy Components and it does NOT give this error and it is being stored to a remote share point as well.

Thoughts???

From looking at the error text it looks like the server is a DC. If that's the case then the Shadow Copy backup will include AD.

The error plus the fact that you said the backup is to a remote B2D folder indicates that you may have selected the option to restore individual AD components (aka GRT).

Take a look at this technote and see if it matches your setup:

Pay attention to figure 3 and see if you have enabled that specific option.

Yes... it is a domain controller.

And it did have that item checked by default.

I unchecked it and that was the solution.
