Verify taking days

I have a simple, full backup set to run every night. It backs up from a RAID 5 array to a RAID 5 array. The backup runs fine, but, the verify is taking days. What is causing this?

This is in response to your problem statement

The solution cannot be deduced unless we isolate the issue

check for any hardware or SCSI controller related errors in system event log, i.e. event id 7,9,11, or 15

create B2D folder on non-raid drive and then verify the result, this is just to isolate the cause of issue
