Veritas 9.1 to 10 upgrade fails

Jon_White

I have a test server with 9.1BE for Windows on a 2003 server with SQL 2000 3a on it. I am attempting the upgrade of BE 10. The pre-check program did not find anything except for flagging the need for the agent serial numbers. I have valid serial numbers for all agents that are going to be maintained on the server.
I have attempted to run the upgrade. It starts on the upgrade fine and then a pop-up window comes up. It states:

1:1305 2: D:\Temp\WINNT\INSTALL\BE\VERITAS Backup Exec for Windows Servers.msi 3: 1008

There is an error message from the Application Log:

Source: MsiInstaller
Event ID: 11305
Description:
1: 2:VERITAS Backup Exec for Windows Servers 3: 1: 1305 2: D:\Temp\WINNT\INSTALL\BE\VERITAS Backup Exec for Windows Servers.msi 3: 1008

The upgrade process stops and will only allow me to exit out.

Hello,

Please verify the bkupinst.log file located at C:\Windows and find the "Return value 3" and then you will get the exact error message.

Please send us the error message to further troubleshoot this issue.

NOTE : If we do not receive your reply within two business days, this post would be marked assumed answered and would be moved to answered questions pool.

I am out of town and unable to get at that server right now. Please leave this ticket open until Friday, 10/14. I will be able to get at that server then. Thank you!

I had EXACTLY the same issue. To fix, move your installation files from D: drive to C: drive and try again. Seriously!!!

That did it! Good find!

Moved the source files to the C: drive and ran the install. No problems!
Thank you!
