Weekdays slow, weekends fast

We're running an external SCSI LTO1 drive off a Windows 2003 Server running Veritas 10.0. Approximately 165GB is backed up off three servers every night. The server running Veritas also has Exchange 2003.

The entire backup and restore takes over 10 1/2 hours M-F yet takes around 8 hours on Saturday and Sunday.

The same job is running every day. The company is open 7 days a week.

Exchange is set to perform maintenance between 2am and 6am 7 days a week.

Can someone help me track down what is causing the backup to take over 2.5 hours longer on weekdays as compared to weekends even though the same job is running.

Hello,

At what time have you scheduled the jobs to run on Weekends and on weekdays? Is it the same time? Are there any other jobs running at the same time? Check for differences, if any, in the weekday and weekend jobs. That might provide a clue.

If there are no differences, check if you get any errors in the Windows event logs. Are you using different tapes for the weekday and weekend jobs?

It's the exact same job. Same job is scheduled for 7 days a week at the same time. I'm getting no errors in the logs. Different tapes are used every single day. We're on a four week rotation so tapes are basically used once a month.

Jobs are scheduled for 9:30pm every day.

Hello,

Check if the anti virus service is running during the backups. If yes then stop the antivirus service and verify results.

It could also be a problem with the network. Check the network connectivity as well.

Let us know the results.
