I am in the process of automating backups for our Network. Our current setup is a 12 week rotation of one full backup on Sundays followed up by a daily incremental for the following 6 days. Currently these jobs have to be created manually every week. Since we changed media, from tape to HD backups, I am exploring to see if this is feasable to preset the jobs with the same 12 week roation. I ran into a dead end trying to plan the Incremental. I was trying to see if there was a way to get it to run 6 out off 7 days a week with a 12 week repeat but the "repeat every X weeks" option doesnt seem to be available for incrementals.
Currently running BE 2010R2 V13.0 Rev 4164 (64 bits)
Any input would be apreciated.
Thank you

I think that you are over complicating things
Set up two jobs, your weeklie and your daily. Use two media sets, with an 83 day OPP setting
Set your weekly job to run on whatever day you wish (Friday perhaps) and the Daily to run all other days

Unfortunately, we have 12 media sets on rotation, so that wouldn’t be feasible. Currently, 1 media set consists of a full backup + 6 days of incremental. This gives us 12 weeks of "live" backups available so that the we don’t have to depend on the media sent to our offsite vault (which can take a cpl of days to retrieve).

I fail to see how two medai sets as opposed to 12 media sets affects data retention on site or at your offsite location
You can live with complicated or make a change and go forward with simple. It's up to you
(You should be using all Overwrite for disk based jobs in any case)

I see your point, but let’s take a different approach, let's forget the background info, I just want to make an incremental that repeats 6 days out of the week every 12 weeks, how would I be able to do that?

I don't think that you can do it with the scheduler in 2010
I'll set the support flag on this thread to draw the attention of the Symantec Techs
