What does this icon mean?

I'm a bit of a CPS novice so I'm hoping someone can help me out here.  What does the little red X mean on this icon?  I think it might be that CPS knows the file has been updated but hasn't been able to backup the file yet, but that is just my guess.

Does anyone know what this means?  The red X went away today for this file.
