What happens if a CASO server is lost?

I'm considering using a media server with the CASO option and a media server with MMS option to perform optimized deduplication.

See this whitepaper on page 4:

http://eval.symantec.com/mktginfo/enterprise/white_papers/b-backup_exec_dedupe_optimized_2010_WP_211...

My question is: what happens if the CASO server is destroyed? Will the MMS still function? Can I use the MMS to restore the CASO server?

If you use centralized catalogs, the MMS will be down.

As for the other catalog methods with CASO, I'm not sure.  I think, the Admin Guide covers this.

teiva-boy is right on centralising your catalogs/media information...if your CASO goes down, site backups die.

The other 2 options are:

1. replicated - this means you replicate your information between the media server and the CASO. The CASO can delegate jobs if need be. If the CASO dies, backups continue to run.

2. Local media server - only catalogs are replicated, but the CASO simply becomes a monitoring/reporting tool. Useful if you have slow lines.

That's about it. Laters!
