What steps necessary to migrate Backup Exec 11d from one server to another?

The previous SA here for some reason installed the Backup Exec server on our Exchange server; I want to move it to it's own box.  What steps necessary to migrate Backup Exec 11d from one server to another?  Aren't there databases of all the backups residing on the original server that need to get moved as well?  Thanks,

There are a couple of ways of doing this.

1. Refer to http://support.veritas.com/docs/286729; this tells you about using BEMIG.EXE; then, you would have to use BEUtility to change the media server name in the database as described in http://support.veritas.com/docs/277063.

2. From your existing installation, tech note http://support.veritas.com/docs/274778 describes how to use BEUtility to Copy Media Server Configuration to a network location; then, on the new media server, you can use Apply Copied Media Server Configuration to bring back the jobs and setup.

For your information, tech note http://support.veritas.com/docs/283260 provides information about updating to 11d.

Awesome, thanks for the links and the detailed explanation.  This is EXACTLY what I was looking for!  Do you know if there is an inordinate risk of corrupting the backup database during this process?  If so, what directory and types of files are they stored in/as?  I'll make a backup copy of them beforehand...

Hi Virtual-sa,
The data folder located in the backup exec contains almost all the info ... ( jobs , schedules , alerts etc...) so making a copy of the data folder will be good.

why did you respond to a thread that has been inactive for more than two years?
