a0008101- Invalid Physical Volume Library Argument

Heres our problem,

Running Server 2003, Sony SDX 450V Ait1 Tape drive, Veritas backup exec 9.1 with SP2. According to these forums this error is due to a corrupt database, the database in question is referring to the veritas program database ? or perhaps a database we are trying to back up ?.

Assuming its the veritas database, i reinstalled veritas and deleted the database files, backup exec created a new fresh database and to no success, still encountered this error message.

Can anyone shed some light on this ???, a Veritas engineers opinion would be helpful.

Hello,

Generally this error occurs due to the incorrect tape device driver, SCSI bus or tape device hardware related issues. Perform the following steps to resolve this problem:
1. Open Backup Exec
2. Go to Devices tab > Right click on the tape drive > uncheck "Enabled"
3. Again right click on the tape drive and select "Delete"
4. Stop all Backup Exec services
5. Start all Backup Exec services, and verify if the tape device is detected.
6. Create a new backup job, run it and verify the results.
7. Install VERITAS tape device drivers for the tape device by running "tapeinst.exe" program located in "Program files\VERITAS\Backup Exec\NT" folder.
VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) 9.1 - Device Driver Installer (20050115) - Includes Tape Driver Release (20041231) and Robotic Library Release (45) (Intel Only)

8. Update the firmware of the tape device to the latest.
Refer to the technote below:
Title: "Unable to acquire device or media. Invalid Physical Volume Library Client Identifier" (a0008102 HEX or e0008102 HEX) is reported during a backup job

Hope this helps you.
