a0008488 - Access is denied - Netware

Hi,

I encountered the following error:

Error category : Security Errors
Error : a0008488 - Access is denied.

Errors:

Backup - ABC.NetWare File System/ABC/SYS: SYS:
Access denied to file PUBLIC/DNSDHCP/SETUP.EXE.

Exceptions:

Backup - ABC.NetWare File System/ABC/SYS: SYS:
File "XXX" in use - Backuped up.
The item ABC.NetWare File System/ABC/SYS:\/ETC/AUDIT.CTL in use - skipped.
System/ABC/SYS:\/ETC/AUDIT.LOG in use - skipped.
File "YYY" in use - Backuped up.
File "ZZZ" in use - Backuped up.

At first after reading many threads/articles, I thought its purely due to an account without sufficient access rights. However, I get the same errors even after using another account with superuser rights. Kindly advise. Thank you.

I'm using the following product
BE9.1 Rev. 4691
Agent for Lotus Domino
Advanced Open File Option
Intelligent Disaster Recovery Option
Remote Agent for Netware
9 REPLIES 9

I've had similar authentication problems, and am trying a DSRepair on the Netware server.

Hi Jeff, why is the problem related and require to do DSRepair? What is the impact of doing a DSRepair? Kindly elaborate please?

From the above error messages, BE seems to have access problem to the files when they are in use. Does it mean AOFO fails? Is there something like open file agent for Netware?

I like to isolate the problem first.

Thank you.Message was edited by:

Hi Ching,

Yes, it looks like the errors are caused by open files that Backup Exec cannot access.

There is an open file option for NetWare but you will need to upgrade to Backup Exec 10.x for Windows Servers in order to use it as it is not compatible with Backup Exec 9.1 for Windows Servers.

The Open File Option is a separate purchase that you would need to get along with the Remote Agent for NetWare:

Hope that helps.

Now, I'm able to achieve 100% completed with exceptions with the following settings:

To turn off AOFO.
To exclude SYS\ETC, SYS\MAIL, SYS\PUBLIC\DNSDHCP

However, I'm still getting the following errors:

Errors:

Backup - ABC.NetWare File System/ABC
Unable to initialize Remote Agent

The item ABC.NetWare File System/ABC/XYZ:\/ in use -
skipped.
The item ABC.NetWare File System/ABC/XYZ:\/ in use - skipped.
...
The item ABC.NetWare File System/ABC/XYZ:\/ in use - skipped.

Is it really true with remote agent and BE9.1, I'm not able to backup open files on netware file system? If so, I can escalate to upper management on this issue. Kindly advise.

Thank you.

Hi Ching,

We will be moving this thread to the Backup Exec for Netware pool.

You can backup open files on a NetWare server:

Go to Tools-->Options-->Backup--> select 'With a lock' under 'Open file backup when Advanced Open File Option is not used'.

However, you will probably find that there are still some system files that you cannot backup.

I think your best option would be to upgrade to Backup Exec 10.x for Windows and purchase a license for the NetWare Open File Option.

I thought AOFO is not applicable for Netware and is for Windows so far. Please correct me if I am wrong. I did tried with AOFO before, but BE will give me the following message:

OFO: Driver is not loaded.

Yes, correct:

AOFO : Windows Servers only

OFO: NetWare Servers only
