applying service packs to 9.1

I want to upgrade my Veritas 9.1 rev. 4691. I read the following thread about available service packs -

http://forums.veritas.com/discussions/thread.jspa?forumID=18&threadID=51976&messageID=4386707

I downloaded SP1 - the big download - and noticed when I run it that its actually more like a new installation (wants serial key) than a simple upgrade package - so what I want to now is do I bother doing this? can I bypass this "service pack" and just install #2 and #3? do i have to uninstall my original install and start the sp1 from scratch? is this an upgrade? if so, why do I have to install it like its a new install of Veritas?

Thanks.

Just download SP3 directly. You don't install Windows 2000 Service pack 1,2 and 3 before installing Service Pack 4, and Backup exec is no different.

There's one hotfix following SP3 worth applying too.

What did you try installing? The first link Ken posted on that page was the full install for 9.1 rev 4691.1. Rather than being "Service pack 1" it actually refers to Hotfix 1, which adds the desktop and latop option.

If you have already installed the product, just go here (as stated by ken):

http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/278302.htm

Download and install SP3.

I've tried to install SP3 on my 9.1 install and I still get the message:

"The following patches need to be installed before this patch can successfully continue.

be4691Rsp2.exe"

And I get that exact message when I try to install SP2 even!

Hello,
The service packs are cumulative, you may install the service pack 3 directly without installing first sp1 and 2.

For the error message regarding installed patches, do a repair db and then reboot and try the installation of SP3.
