Hi..... our backups on a windows 2003 sp1 server have been faliing recently due to the remote agent service stopping during the backup. Im sure the problem has occured only since installing 2003 server sp1. Ive also upgraded backup exec to 9.1 sp3.

the app log shows an entry similar to this

Faulting application beremote.exe, version 9.1.4691.49, faulting module bedsnt5.dll, version 9.1.4691.50, fault address 0x0004fce2
the backup exec job failure shows something like this

Completed status: Failed
Final error: 0xa00084f8 - The network connection to the Backup Exec Remote Agent has been lost. Please check for network errors.

the problem occurs if the backup includes these folders
c:\windows\system32\wbem\repositry or repositry.001

ive tried reinstalling the WMI as per a microsoft article but the problem still occures. Also there is no problem with backing up the WMI from the WMI properties under Computer management.

anyone any ideas

Hello,

It seems the backup succeeds after deselcting the c::\windows\system32\wbem\repositry or repositry.001 folder.

Follow the steps in the technote below in order to resolve the problem:

Technote 1 you seem to have already followed, however you can retry nonetheless

Title: Backup Exec Remote Agent service stops during a backup and a "Faulting application beremote.exe, version 9.1.4691.35, faulting module bedsnt5.dll, version 9.1.4691.20" error is logged in the Application event log.

Title: "A timeout occurred waiting for data from the agent during operation shutdown" or "The network connection to the Backup Exec Remote Agent has been lost. Check for network errors" (a00084f8 HEX or e00084f8 HEX) is reported during a backup operation.

Hope this helps. Revert if the issue persists.
