backup fails when root is not accessible

i installed ralus 1798sp1 on a linux vm guest in hyper-v.  the distro is SLES 11 sp1 and when runnign the install it seaid everythign went good.  if i try to browse to it using any credentials including root it fails.  Waht approach can i take to resovle this issue?  Should i try another user instead of root? Thanks

1) According to page 1074 of the Admin Guide which can be found in the BE installation directory, you must have a root logon account to run RALUS.

2) SP2 is out, so you should run LiveUpdate and upgrade to SP2.

After installing SP2, you should update the RALUS.  See my blog below on how to do so.
