we want ot use fire wire devices for the backup-to-disk folder.
the only thing we miss is an option to savely remove the hardware after the backup job .
the user should only attach the next device for the next job.

Hello,

We presume you are talking about the Hot swappable Wizard.
You can replace or add a hot-swappable tape device on a Backup Exec media server
without having to reboot the server. The Hot-swappable Device Wizard guides you
through the process.

To start the Hot-swappable Device Wizard on Tools menu, point to Wizards, and then click Hot-swappable Device Wizard.

no, i want to connect ide drives in external usb 2.0 or 1394 fire wire rackets. every night the system should make a full backup to the ide drive. than we need to eject the drive and connect the next one for the next day.
i intend to run this change of the usb hardware as easy as possible for the person who has to connect the new hdd every morning.

I have just tried the same configuration. 300 gb usb 2.0 seagate. Did a full backup and IDR. Restore fails @ "Select Restore Method" - * Use locally attached media devise. -> Detecting Media Device
"Attempting to find secondary media device" can't see external usb drive that contains full backup.
Windows setup has no problem seeing the usb drive. What gives?

Hi,

Presently this configuration is not supported. We support only the Backup-to-disk devices that maintains constant connection to Windows. As you're swapping out the device while replacing it with the next USB drive, Windows loses its connection to the device and hence the device is seen as offline. The workaround is to replace the Backup-to-Disk folder and re-create a new one. Or BEWS services will have to be restarted.

Refer this technote:

You should be able to continue using the usb attached hard drives but when you swap them out you are going to see inconsistencies with the bkf files linked to that device.
We would like to suggest you to submit an enhancement for the desired feature at
