backup win2003 enterprise always failed unless reboot the win2003

Backup the windows server 2003 enterprise always failed with backup exec 15 (version 14.2 rev. 1180.3160), the error is following:

Final error: 0xe0008526 - Backup Exec could not locate a Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Services (VSS) software or hardware snapshot technology for this job. Select a valid VSS snapshot technology for the target computer.
Final error category: System Errors

But after I restart the server windows 2003, the backup complete successfully every time.

So when I will backup this server, I have to restart it firstly.

Anybody knows this solution?

from command prompt run, vssadmin list providers after the reboot and then also run it when the server is not rebooted and backup fails. Make sure that the providers listed are the same is both cases.

Also check the status of writers by using this command - vssadmin list writers.

Make sure the above status is good , if you see a writer failed or a provider missing then its an OS fault. Makes sure OS is well patched
