c0000218 {Registry File Failure}

I try to restore Windows as guest OS under Virtual Server 2005. Boot from IDR CD.
but i see BSOD.

STOP: c0000218 {Registry File Failure}
The registry cannot load the hive (file):
\SystemRoot\System32\Config\SAM
or its log or alternate.
It is corrupt, absent, or not writable

what can i do?

Hi,
This error has been seen only a very few times in several years. It may or may not have anything to do with Virtual Server or IDR. The following Microsoft article explains how to troubleshoot this issue:

Thanks for your prompt answer.
Unfortunately, Microsoft articles couldn't aid.
But when creating guest PC, if not IDE, but SCSI is created , so
in this case everything runs well.

Alexander,
You may actually find that increasing the amount of memory for your virtual server from 256MB to 512MB will help.

I`m sure that amount of memory is not reason. As at the moment my Virtual Server (Host PC) has 2 Gb RAM.
But when using virual SCSI Controller, everything runs stably.

What is a difference between virtual IDE and virtual SCSI in BackupExec IDR case? When I just setup XP or W2k3, IDE contoller works correctly.
