Receive the subject error when attempting to inventory, rename, quick erase , or run a backup job.

On a Dell 4600 we have installed:

Symantec Backup Exec 12
Media Server Version 12.0 Rev 1364
Administrative Console 120.0 Rev 1364

 Install the latest SP of BE and also update the drivers of the Device.

What errors are in the Windows event logs?
What OS?
