Did you mean:

full backup

Hi all,

After we migrated one of our servers from Netware 5.1 to Netware 6.5 with SP2, it wont backup differential anymore. In other words, eventhough the job is set as differential it still backups that one server fully and the rest differential. Any ideas why and/or how to resolve.

Thanks.

Eric

Did you place it into a new policy? If you did then all incrementals will by default be full backups until a for real full backup is run.

Nope I added the server to the existing backup job. We have a full backup running every Friday evening.

I recently redid the entire job but the effect is still the same. it still makes a full backup of the server in question while a differential job is running.

By now you probably have already read these technotes. But just in case here are some that may be related to your issue:

Using VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) for NetWare Servers, Differential and Incremental backup jobs appear to be acting like Full backups instead of only backing up changed files.
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/189820.htm

An incremental or differential job backs up all files instead of just the ones that changed since the full backup. This only occurs on a NetWare server after a virus scan operation has been performed.
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/272946.htm

Differential backup backs up as much data as the full backup after a virus scan.
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/272758.htm

The archive bit is not reset in full jobs when using the Open File Option feature on NetWare volumes.

of coarse you can do your own searching via this link:

Hi Bob,

Thanks for pointing me in that direction. I hadnt thought about the virusscanner yet as being the cause of the problems. I will let you know if that resolves the issue but I am quite sure that it will
