"Week days" schedule option doesn't seem to be right.

I'm trying to set up two policies of jobs where one set are backed up to one device and the other to another device. That's simple and I can do it, but I cannot get the scheduling I require to work.

I want the backups of one device to be run Monday to Friday but only on the 1st, 3rd and Last week of each month, and I want the other to run only on the 2nd & 4th week of each month.

No matter how I enter it, the schedule BE displays makes no sense. For example: I enter a job to run at 02:00 effective from 1st June 2005 to run 1st, 3rd and Last week of each month. BE produces a schedule for this job to run:

Wed 1st to Fri 3rd - OK, starts well
Mon 6th to Tue 7th - WRONG as this is week 2
Wed 15th to Sat 18th - WRONG what happened to Mon,Tue and where has Saturday come from!!!
Mon 20th to Tue 21st - WRONG as this is week 4
Fri 24th to Sat 25th - WRONG as this is still week 4 and includes a Saturday
Mon 27th to Sat 2nd - WRONG again but closest so far

What in heavens name is the scheduler up to? If I try to add the second one for the other weeks I start getting overlapping jobs!!

Excellent a stock answer - how quaint.

I've been using BackupExec since v4 and never have I had scheduling problems until now.

I revisited my my backup job and I realised that the Saturdays were "valid" as I had acually chosen the day. However, it still doesn't work as sometimes a week, Mon to Saturday only has jobs scheduled from Wednesday to Saturday, some weeks have no backups, and sometimes one weekly backup runs one week then the other weekly won't schedule itself until 3 weeks later,

WHAT PART OF SPECIFIC WEEKS DOES THIS HEAP OF GARBAGE NOT UNDERSTAND!

At this rate I'm going to have to use the Windows Scheduler to perform the job BE obviously hasn't any clue about.

Ok, here's another example. I created a simple job, no policy and scheduled it as follows (I delete all other scheduled jobs):

Effective date 13/06/2005
Time window 02:00:00 to 03:59:59
Week days: 1st Mon to Sat, 3rd Mon to Sat, Last Mon to Sat

And what do get?

15 to 18 June
20, 21, 25, 25 June
27 to 30 June 1, 2 July
4 to 7 July
15 16, July
18 to 21 July
25 to 30 July

When it should be:

13 to 18 June
27 to 30 June, 1, 2 July
11 to 16 July
25 to 30 July

The only week it gets right in this example is the last week.

BE has actually scheduled this exactly as you have specified.
When you choose the Week days options, and schedule a backup of the 1st Mon to Sat, 3rd Mon to Sat and Last Mon to Sat, you are actually getting exactly that

15-18 June - are the 3rd Wed,Thu,Fri,Sat of the month.
20,21 June - are the 3rd Mon-Tue of the the month
24,25 June - are the last Thu,Fri of the month.
27,28,29,30 June - are the last Mon, Tue, Wed,Thu of the month.

I get his same problem.

Example: Starting November 8th 2006 and....
Set "Week Days" to 1st, 3rd, and Last weeks gives following results:
Dec, 2006 = 1-7 (1st is a friday), 15-21 (same), 25-31 a gap of only 3 days
Jan, 2007 = 1-7 (1st is a monday), 15-21, 25-31 another gap of only 3 days
Feb 2007 = 1-7 (1st is a thursday), 15-28 NO GAPS

Why does only flagging alternate weeks give differing gaps between the
weeks. It seems that the "Week Days" settings mirrors the "Days of the Month"
settings. Without any benefit or any sense.

Can you show how you would alternate WEEKS being backedup? We have
a robotic library with 2 cartridges of 8 tapes. We want to alternate these in
use for each week so that there is predictable usage of tapes.
