reading backup tapes from version 8.6 on Backupexec 10

Hi,

I would like to know if it is possible to read backup tapes created with Backupexec 8.6, on a server with version 10 of backupexec. If it is possible can you please tell me what needs to be done. I tried to read the tapes on the new server with backupexec 10 and I get a "bad media" message after an inventory is done.

Hello,

Yes the tape from 8.x can be read with Backup exec Version 10d. All you need to do is inventory and catalog the tapes. While cataloging the tapes, ensure that the option "use storage based media" in tools > Options is unchecked.

However since the media is showing as bad media after inventory, you could check out if you could use the media from Ntbackup.
