redirected restore of Exchange mailbox

Running BE ver 10, 5484 on Windows 2000 std server /sp4
Exchange 2000 sp3 on Windows 2000 /sp4

I need to restore the private info store onto a server that is not running Exchange 2000. Is that possible?

The goal is to restore a single mailbox. To that end, I have recreated the real domain structure in a lab with the exception of the exchange server. That server does not yet have exchange installed because I had to put that server on the real domain in order to do the restore (I have a SAN w/autoloaders). I did not want to install Exchange on that server until I moved it to the lab.

So far, I have been unable to get a successful restore of the information store to the recovery server. The error message is that the databases must be dismounted, but Exchange is not installed on this server, so there is nothing to dismount, hence my dilemma.

Is there a better way to accomplish this? Thanks.
