remote agent restore issue

Hi i have a troubling issue here. I'am running a High Availibilty software call Marathon FT server on 2 IBM x346 on Windows Server 2003 SP1. The LTO tape drive is connected via a tape enclosure and drivers is already patch to the latest from Veritas.

I installed the BEWS v10 5484 patch with SP1, HF23. I have succefully backup and restore to my local disk successfully though the IBM LTO Ultrium TD2. But when i want to restore to the remote machine ( note that this remote machine is a virtual W2K3 running on my both IBM x346, somehow when the restore starts the virtual will auto reboot follow by my local machine and restore refused to go though.)

Initially i suspect the remote agent is not working properly but if i were to perform the same backup but backup to disk folder and the restore can be performed successfully. Any idea what's wrong? Restore though tape cause reboot but restore though disk is ok?? Pls kindly assist and thanks for your valuable input.

Hello,

Are the backups on the tape successful? Refer to the following technote and ensure that the process you follow is correct:

Title: Disaster Recovery of a remote Windows 2000 or 2003 computer (includes non-authoritative restore of Active Directory for a domain controller)
http://support.veritas.com/docs/236286

Do you install Windows 2003 SP 1 before attempting the restore? If not, try so and then test the results.

Also upgarde to version 10.0 5520 and then test. Here is the link for the download:

VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) 10.0 rev. 5520 for Windows Servers Installation Files
http://support.veritas.com/docs/277181

Revert with details if the issue persists.

Hi priya, first i'am not even performing a full restore. I'am just trying to restore a test folder which i created in the D: drive of the virtual server. The server has already been patched to SP1 the BEWS is also patch with SP1.

This restore issue only happens when i tried to restore using the LTO tape drive but when i tried to restore from the backup-to-disk folder it works fine. I suspect that there's a timeout on the SCSI device but if so, why it doesn't timeout when restoring to the local C drive and remote C drive then? If i include the virtual D drive it will not restore successfully and the server will auto reboot? Is there a bug somewhere?

Appreciate your kind advice!
