restoring from tapes

I apologize -- I'm sure this is a stupid question.

I'm using a six-tape changer as my storage media device. To use the tapes in the changer effectively in a restore of files, etc., do I need to have the tapes in the same order as they originally were when I did the backup to them?

Thanks.

The best thing to do is to insert the tapes always in the same order into the changer, that way BE will have the least trouble finding the correct tape. Don't know if BE is smart enough to search for the available tape in the changer to find the one it needs.

Hello,

Before restoring please do an inventory and catalog and then try restoring you should be able to restore without putting them in the same order.

Thanks,
