restoring old backup tapes

DanyaUser

Dear Symantec

I got a mission to restore data from tapes from the year 2005, the backup tapes is LTO1.

So I tried to restore data using LTO3 Tape with Backup Exec 2010 R2 but it keep stucking on "Queue" status.

The only way that solve that problem was to install Backup Exec 11d which appears that he can read data from those old tapes (LTO1)

I hope I help some users

Hi,

BE doesn't dictate what type of tapes you can read from, only the type of hardware you can write too.

In this regard, it's down to your hardware manufacturer, but generally you can read/write 1 LTO generation back, and read from 2 generations back.

That said, have you catalogged your tape, and if so, have you changed the date in the restore window to accurately reflect the date you want to restore from?

You can verify the hardware on the BE 2010 HCL below:

Thanks!
