JON_EPSTEIN
Not applicable
Server is 2003 running Exchange 2003.

BE 9.1 and Agent for Exchange are installed.

Remote Agent service is running, because it has to, but server is not backing up any remote data.

During backup - every night - Remote Agent service crashes and backup fails with error 0x00084f8.

Hello,

Please check if the Remote Agent service on the Exchange Server is running using Local system account.

Please check if you are able to ping from Backup Exec server to the Exchange server and vice versa.

Also please check if port 10000 is open using telnet command.

Hope this helps you.

Regards

He said the server is backing itself up. The backupexec server IS the exchange server.

Is he expected to have the server ping itself?

These remote agent errors are becoming more and more common and Vertias does not seem to recognize that in most cases, there is only one server in question.

Very frustrating problem.

Hello,

As you have mentioned here that "server is not backing up any remote data" this means that you are getting an error whil ebacking up remote server?

If our understanding regarding your problem is incorrect please elaborate it.

There is one server in question, and it has one tape backup drive, and one installation of BackupExec.

There is no "remote" server. The one and only server is backing itself up.

The remote agent service is crashing, causing backups to stop.

Hello,

In this case put the remote agent service in debug mode and verify the exact error message.
