Backup Exec throws above alert if there are no ovewritable tapes in the library.

BE will request for an overwritable media in below scenarios.

1) If the bakcup job is set to overwrite.

2) If the backup job is spanning across multiple tapes.

Associate some tapes with the scratch media set so RJ fat they can be overwritten and used

Can you confirm if there was overwritable media available in the device or not? Also ensure you are not running hardware with software encryption?

Check the properties of the slot and confirm the “Export Pending” is not reading yes. If it is, then try running an import job on the media/slot.

Resetting the device can often correct issues with the tape devices. Follow the steps below to properly power-cycle the tape device and refer to the following documentation for Backup Exec 2014 best practices with encryption and backup to tape jobs.

  1. Power Down the Backup Exec Server

  2. Power down the tape device

  3. Once the device is fully powered off power the device back on

  4. WAIT until the device is fully powered up and ready for a command

  5. Power on the Backup Exec Server
