upgrade from 10d using sql2000 on separate server to 12 using mdf file database

I have version 10d running with its database residing on an separate mssql 2000 server.  I want to go to version 12 but no long want to use the old sql server.  I just want to use the database built into version 12.

I have backed up the old database from the mssql server to a .bak file.

The database is still running as well.

Is there anything special I have to do to get this upgrade to work?

You can upgrade with this configuration.

After successfully upgrade....Install the SQL express 2005 on backup server.

Use BEUTILITY.exe to change the database instance.

Anup,

As per symantec instructions I install the sql 2000 engine on the backup exec server then used the beutility to move the database from the remote sql server to the local machine's sql.  Next I ran the environment check for version 12 and got the following error

  Failed

The current version of Backup Exec is using an instance of MSDE 2000 that is not the BKUPEXEC instance. Since other programs may also be using it, Backup Exec cannot upgrade this instance to SQL Express 2005. Before upgrading Backup Exec, please upgrade this instance of MSDE 2000 to a SQL Express 2005 instance.

Is the next step to upgrade the sql engine by installing the sql express 2005 from

C:\bews_12.1364_32bit_version_unzip\WINNT\INSTALL\SQLExpress\sqlserver2005_bc.msi  ?
