Has the previous problem of SFN's been resolved in the new Version 10 of Backup Exec, since it was a known fact that the DR option in V.9 could never do a true DR due to the problem of SFN's (Shart File Names)

Cheers All.

Hi , (your test sould be possible)

To conduct the test it sounds like you are doing so things most in place first..

1- Run a complete "succesful" backup of Systemstate + C:\
from the original DC
2- Install a new server with the same version of Windows as the DC and the same hostname , BUT on another subnet than the DC if it is still in production, with a different IP adresse for a secure test.
3- Move the Backup Exec server to the new servers subnet , so that you are able to conduct a ping to the new installed server IP adresse form the same hostname as the DC (testing DNS issue on the BE server)
4- Install a Backup Exec Remote Agent on the new test server , maybe by pushing from the BE server (testing administrative rigths and network access)
5- Insure that the Remote Agent is running on the Local System Account and leave the server running.
6- On the BE server select the "succesful" backup of the original DC incl. C:\ and Systemstate , and remember to provide the Resouse Credencials for the new "test" server and click RUN NOW

Woila :)
