In veritas backup exec, there is a setting called, "write checksums to media". What this means exactly ?

A checksum is a value written to tape at the end of each block. If the
checksum read at Verify or Restore doesn't match the value computed
from the data on the tape, you probably have no valid data on the tape
for that file.

You can turn on VERIFY in the job description and do this automagically
each time the job runs.
