Clarity on Fingerprint database structure

Hi All
I know there are several erudite people on  this website who can answer this .I have checked on the forums but couldn't find a definite answer .What is the difference between a Primary and non-primary filegroup in respect  to the Fingerprint database  .If the Fingerprint database stores  information on SIS parts of items what is the difference between data stored in possibly 2 different locations e.g. primary and non-primary filegroups
Thanks :)

Very simply the Install Guide says

  • A basic configuration, where Enterprise Vault locates the primary filegroup and all the non-primary filegroups on one device.

  • An option to configure additional locations for the 32 non-primary filegroups. The non-primary filegroups can grow rapidly in size when you use single instance storage. For best performance you need to spread the non-primary

    filegroups across multiple locations.

Honestly I'm not sure how much information I'm allowedto give regarding this, but basically when the item is hashed and a finger print is determined, that's how it knows which member table to go to. And not only can you have this file groups on different disks you can have them on differen SQL servers this is all covered in the adv training, hence why I'm not sure how much I can divulge

Thanks for the link to that discussion ,it explained nearly everything
I have one more question. The 32 non-primary file group locations can potentially be configured on different disk for performance .I now understand those contain the SIS data of items but how does EV write to the different 32 locations  ?
For example will it use the first one to commit SIS  data for an item and then the second location for the next one ? Is it random ?
Thanks :)
