Client Driven PST Migration - only doing half the job

Dave_Lloyd

Hi experts,

We have deployed EV 6 SP2 and are about to proceed into Pilot phase. However, I am having an issue with client side PST migration.

I enabled my own account as an example, and received the PST migration notification e-mail.
A couple of PST's on my C drive (which I didn't know existed!) have migrated themselves, but the PST's on my home drive (network share) have not.

I believe my client is SP2 also (it was packaged into SMS by our head office overseas) - in the EV information it says EV is 600020000. Interestingly, under user details it has User Mailbox - Error getting the MAPI Property - ref: 8004010f, and the Site Id also shows error - ref: 8004010f.

The contents of the client log are (after a couple of restarts of Outlook):
21/07/2006 02:19:07.182: Log file created (level 1).
21/07/2006 02:19:07.184: PST profile entry for - G:\NewBuild\Outlook\archive2004.pst, will not be removed (File Attribs 0x00000020)

There seems to be no activity on the EV server for over 30 minutes since I restart the PST migrator task.
I thought the PST on Network drive issue is resoved with SP2?

thanks for any guidance

You can either wait for sp3 or request a hotfix from SYMC for you EV client. That will allow the Client to mark the pst on the home drive for migration.

Cheers,

I've copied another PST to my C drive and added it into Outlook - and restarted Outlook. I see noe the PST gets marked which I assume is a good sign.

21/07/2006 03:00:31.920: PST profile entry for - G:\NewBuild\Outlook\Projects.pst, will not be removed (File Attribs 0x00000020)
21/07/2006 03:00:32.206:
21/07/2006 03:00:32.780: Successfully marked PST: DiscussionGroup2004

I wait and see if it migrates.

thanks

Symantec Support have indicated that the issue is around the fact we use DFS to map our drives. I spoke with 2 different engineers and got 2 different answers as to whether this is fixed in SP3 or not.
It also seems SP3 has to restart the QA process but is still due for the end of the month release. I think early August is more likley personally.

Of course, they may say that this is unsupported.. If Microsoft won't support it, perhaps no-one should!!

SP3 has fixed the issue :)

I upgraded the server a few hours ago, and installed one client to test and sure enough it's now migrating the PSTs. Within the client log, the drive letter mapping now gets resolved to a UNC.

Only thing I had to do was clear that flag in the registry again.

cheers

Hi,

Does anyone know where ths link above (in Dave Lloyd's third post) points to?  I am having this exact same problem and the new forum structure means I can't follow the link.

Thanks.
