Hello,
I find this error when upgrading EV from 8.0 to 9.0 (I have a good report from Deployment Scanner)
How can I fix my problem and continue my setup?
Thank you.

Can you check the following for us?
On a 32bit (x86) machine ....
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\KVS\Enterprise Vault\Install
On a 64bit (x64) machine)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\wow6432Node\KVS\Enterprise Vault\Install
Can you find a String value (REG_SZ) named "SMTPMailArchiving"?
Is it set to "Installed"?
If it is, can you set it to "Not Installed"
If it doesn't exist, can you create a new string value named "SMTPMailArchiving" and give it the value of "Not Installed" and then try again?
Past this you should probably do the following
1. Get Install shield to create a log
2. Look for EV install log files in your user temp directory
3. Run a Procmon when attempting to install the EV Server, just lock it down to check setup.exe
4. Open a case with symantec

Hi ndt,
It seems that some files has been locked to cause that error.
Have you stopped all the EV services?
Are there any other admin users logged in to the EV server.
Try rebooting the ev server and ensure that the EV services are stopped then try again.
Hoope that helps.

every time i've seen that particular kind of error its because of bad install media

Hi ndt,
By the way, are you logged in as the EV service account to perform the upgrade on the EV server?
Just checking. :)

Or you can just check if there is someone else logged on a different session and have the Admin console open. I have seen this beeing the source most of the times.

Hi
-I stopped all the EV services
-I redownload install media and run setup again
-I am sure that only me login to EV server by EV service account via Remote Desktop
-My domain admin account also EV service account. Is this a reason?
This error still appear.
Thank you for your time

It might be worth having Process monitor running when starting the upgrade and checking what is going on before you get the error.
Out of curiosity, can you run EV 9.0 setup, do you get the same error?
EV service account does not need to be a domain admin. Check the install config guide Page 66 for details on what permissions required for the EVSA.

Out of curiosity, can you run EV 9.0 setup, do you get the same error?
Do you mean that I should remove EV 8 and setup EV 9 ?
Thank you.

Hi Marvin,
I follow Jesus's instructions above.
set "SMTPMailArchiving" to "Not Installed"
