Hello All...

Is anyone here aware of potential issues or other things to be aware of with the changes to DST?

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/timezone/dst2007.mspx

Thanks!

I opened a call yesterday with Support, and this is the response I received:

In August of 2005 the United States Congress passed the Energy Policy Act, which changes the dates of both the start and end of daylight saving time (DST) for the U.S and Canada.
The changes will be applied in 2007 and Daylight Savings Time (DST) will start at 2:00 A.M on the second Sunday in March and will end at 2:00 A.M on the first Sunday in November. Prior to this change DST started on the first Sunday in April and ended on the last Sunday in October.
Symantec Enterprise Vault relies on time stamps provided by the underlying technology from which an item is archived. For example, Microsoft Exchange or Microsoft Windows Sharepoint Services.
Known issues affecting the current versions of Symantec Enterprise Vault
Items indexed with an incorrect time stamp during the extended period of DST may be incorrectly excluded or included in searches with date based criteria - For example Compliance Accelerator searches.
When viewing items with time stamps prior to 2007, the date time properties (for example the received time) may be presented an hour later than the actual values.
Resolution
Symantec Corporation plans to address these DST changes in late February 2007 as part of the following releases:
Enterprise Vault
Symantec Enterprise Vault 7.0 Service Pack 1.
Symantec Enterprise Vault 6.0 Service Pack 4.
Compliance Accelerator
Symantec Enterprise Vault Compliance Accelerator 7.0 Service Pack 1.
Symantec Enterprise Vault Compliance Accelerator 6.0 Service Pack 2.
Discovery Accelerator
Symantec Enterprise Vault Discovery Acceleratory 7.0 Service Pack 1.
Symantec Enterprise Vault Discovery Accelerator 6.0 Service Pack 1
The changes required to the above mentioned products rely wholly on the deployment of the corresponding Microsoft patches for Windows, Exchange Server, Sharepoint, Outlook and any other applicable application. The result of this is that, as long as the Microsoft updates are applied before March 11th 2007, the updates to Enterprise Vault, Compliance Accelerator and Discovery Accelerator can be deployed retrospectively without the requirement to rebuild any indices.
NOTE: Until the updates to the aforementioned Symantec products are applied, date reporting and searching within these applications may not return the correct results.
WARNING: If the patches issued by Microsoft are NOT applied before March 11th 2007, the time stamp data used by Enterprise Vault

So... It looks like EV 6.0 SP4 (or EV 7.0 SP1) is on my list of items to test and deploy prior to 3/11/07.

My account manager responded that the OS & Exchange ESM hotfixes would be all that is required to ensure the EV systems correctly handle the DST issues.

Of course you need to correct DST fixes on your Exchange mailbox, and Outlook clients (including running the DST update tool to fix calendar issues - if archiving calendar items).

I had nothing back regarding application upgrades - the ones released in Feb are a bit close to the mark...if really required.

If the server has been upgraded, does anyone know if the 7.0 SP1 User Extentions also need to be installed to avoid DST issues?

This is from the Updates doc:

Symantec Corporation strongly recommends that you deploy the relevant Microsoft DST patches and Symantec Enterprise Vault Service Packs before March 11th 2007.

After installing this Service Pack, ensure that the following is done on all client machines on which users are performing Archive Explorer or Enterprise Vault browser searches:

Ensure that the Enterprise Vault 7.0 SP1 User Extensions are installed.
Ensure that the Internet Explorer security setting "Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting" is set to "Enable".

Thanks - overlooked that.
