How do you delete multiple folders in EV 9.0? I believe that I read once that the email had tobe deleted and then the system would automatically delete the folder. Is this the only way?

OK so there are only two supported ways of doing it and both require the folder to be empty.

1. DeleteEmptyFolders (Registry key)
If you set the DeleteEmptyFolders registry key to 1 before the start of each archiving run, EV will go through the ArchiveFolder table and ensure that there are no items that exist in a folder, if none exist, then the folder is removed.

2. Through Virtual Vault (in Outlook)
As long as the items are deleted as in the DeleteEmptyFolders example above, you can remove the folder from Virtual Vault simply by deleting the folder. However, if the folder exists in Outlook, you will get a pop up from EV saying to delete the folder through Outlook first.

For a folder to be empty, all items must be hard deleted past their Dumpster period.
By Default the EV Dumpster is disabled, however many companies enable it as to be able to recover items that users may have deleted. When enabling the dumpster, the default period is 14 days.

So after you delete the items, you will have to wait 2 weeks for the folder to be considered "Empty"

Details about DeleteEmptyFolders can be found here:

Once the DeleteEmptyFolders section has completed, it will reset the value from 1 to 0
So if you want to run this regularly , you will have to set it back to 1 afterwards.

Also if you have EV9 and not on SP3, there is an issue with SQL Deadlocks caused by DeleteEmptyFolders resolved in 9 SP3
