EV WORM device suggestion for <100 employees

TheEmptyMind

Hello,

I am hoping for some suggestions on the kind of WORM hardware that is compatible with EV, for an Office < 100 employees and with email volume < 75-100GB/year.  I have experience with NetApp SnapLock but it seems to be an overkill for the above requirements and I am hoping to hear what other shops do.

Thanks in advance,

TheEmptyMind!

You will want to have a peek at the Compatibility Guide http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH38537

There is a section for Storage devices.  Personally, I have seen a great mix for customer, from Centera to NetApp.  I think it really comes down to what types of storage does the customer already use and have a level of comfort with.

Do you absolutely have to have WORM?

Items stored with EV8+ are effectively only written once anyway, so you might be able to achieve a similar sort of effect with a restrictive set of NTFS permissions and policies which disable deletes across the board.

Thanks, Tony.  I did take a look at the Compatibility guide earlier, but there seems to be quite a lot of compatible hardware listed (which is good), but a lot of choices also lead to some confusion :), which is why I am here.  I am looking for the types of Storage devices EV customers are already using for the data volume we are likely going to have i.e., < 75-100GB / year.

Jeff, yes, per the requirements I received, WORM is needed.

Thanks!

one recommendation i can give is DO NOT use a JukeBox, i've seen it used at a number of customers and I cannot think of a worse solution out there, it may be a fraction of the price, but its impractical

I would suggest you look at Symantec's Filestore appliances, integrates with EV for WORM storage.

NB You haven't stated what the current size of the email store is,

ie what the initial backlog to be archived might be.

Also might be worth consider EV.Cloud solution as alternative to on-site servers and appliances.

Hope this helps

I don't want to say anything negative against EV.Cloud, but the EV.Cloud which was liveOffice is a radical departure from Enterprise Vault, completely different user experience and admin experience.

There are however Cloud Storage providers (like AT&T Synaptics, BlueSource etc)
