EV file archiving

We recently purchased EV for email and file system archiving.  We were going to archive files based on the criteria of the last access date.  However, while doing some testing we noticed on our production file server the last access date was incorrect and inconsistent.  It is being updated by an unknown application.  We determined it was not the Anti Virus or Backup Programs.  It appears when you just browse explorer, some of the dates (but not all) might get updated.  Has anyone ever seen this problem?

Another issue we found was that when we did archive some files the placeholders would appear but then disappear after a few seconds.  Technical support did say they thought it might be our Anti Virus software.  They are going to send me documentation on the action that needs to be taken.

The only issue like this i have seen was cause by the backup software modifying the archive bit on the file

This causes a bunch of issues as our rules are designed to archive files modified 1 day ago but the backup would make the file look like it was modified in the last 24 hours so the data was not archived

to work around this we customized our backups on our file servers to no modify the archive bit and that correct the issue for us

While doing some additional testing it appears that PGP Encryption could be causing the problems???
