Hello all,

I need to cluster Enterprise Vault to a different location, EV admin guide does not say anything about clustering the SQL database

How can i manage to failover the SQL services on the SQL Serve?

i did not found any documents at symantec how to configure a full DR.

thx

Well that's up to your SQL admins, I'm sure there's plenty of documentation for SQL clustering out there

Agreed with JW2, EV won't document that.  That said, I have used clustered SQL servers without issue, so it works just fine.

As others have said, the SQL server being clustered or not really doesn't make a difference to the Enterprise Vault server. If the SQL server fails over unexpectedly the Enterprise Vault services (mostly the directory and storage services) will notice the dropped connection and will retry the connection. Once the failover has completed and SQL is up again our services should continue to operate as before

Great, so no need to do anything on behalf of EV admin then ?

Well, if you are changing to a clustered SQL server you need to update EV to point to the virtual name.

There are technotes for that like this one:

i have a Scenario

Site A:  One SQL server and One EV server

Site B: Clustered SQL and Clusterd EV Server.

what will happan if the SQL at Site A will be down all transactation will move to the Clustered SQL server

and EV server at site A still working?

what will happen if only the EV server will be down ?

before implementation GOC for EV i need to know how all the part will function.

all documents desribe just one SQL server and ONE storage lun with 2 EV server.

Yossi you are best involving professional services to help you understand this better as a forum might not be the best place for this.

You can cluster EV using Microsoft Clustering or Veritas Clustering, SQL is up to your SQL admins. So why not cluster site A as well as site B?

In your scenario, if you move site A sql to site b SQL and repoint EV via the VAC etc as detailed in this TN:http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH35744

You will be fine. Remember to have an instance for the Site A db's tho as it wont all work in the same instance
